The Lower Tahquamenon Falls are a series of cascades in Tahquamenon Falls State Park where the river drops over a limestone shelf and splits around a large midstream island. The falls are reached by a loop trail and an island bridge, or by rented rowboat.
The falls are fed by Tahquamenon River. You'll find it in Luce, Michigan. It is protected within Michigan DNR (Tahquamenon Falls State Park).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. A short walk gets you to the viewpoint, so it works for most casual visitors and families. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 2.7 miles round trip. Base a visit out of Paradise, the closest town.
When to go: fall. Expect the strongest flow in spring and after big storms, with a quieter trickle by late summer; confirm current conditions with the land manager before committing to the drive.
