Northrup Falls plunges more than 60 feet over a protruding sandstone ledge into a narrow gorge along Big Branch Creek in Colditz Cove State Natural Area near Allardt. The roughly 1.3-mile loop follows a bluff and descends to overlooks of the falls.
Its 60 ft drop is taller than about 48% of the 775 waterfalls we track.
Northrup Falls sits on Big Branch Creek. It lies in Fentress, Tennessee. The site is on public land managed by Colditz Cove State Natural Area (TN State Parks).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk in is brief — comfortable shoes are usually all you need. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 1.3 miles round trip. The nearest town is Allardt.
When to go: Late winter to spring (high flow). Water volume swings with the seasons here, strongest after snowmelt or rain and lowest in late summer, so check recent streamflow before you go.
