A roughly 35-foot waterfall on the St. Marys River, a native trout stream within Virginia's St. Mary's Wilderness. The moderate out-and-back follows old railroad and mining grades up the gorge and includes several stream crossings.
Its 35 ft drop is taller than about 27% of the 775 waterfalls we track.
The falls are fed by St. Marys River. It lies in Augusta, Virginia. The site is on public land managed by USFS - George Washington & Jefferson National Forests (St. Mary's Wilderness).
This is a moderate hike waterfall: a longer day hike, roughly one to several miles each way. Reaching it takes a moderate walk, so budget time and pack water before you set out. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 4.4 miles round trip. The nearest town is Steeles Tavern.
When to go: spring. Water volume swings with the seasons here, strongest after snowmelt or rain and lowest in late summer, so check recent streamflow before you go.
