Riley Moore Falls is a wide block waterfall on the Chauga River in the Sumter National Forest, roughly 12 feet high and over 100 feet wide, ending in a large swimming pool. The trail descends to the river and gains the elevation back on the return.
Its 12 ft drop is taller than about 4% of the 775 waterfalls we track.
Riley Moore Falls sits on Chauga River. It lies in Oconee, South Carolina. The site is on public land managed by Sumter National Forest (USFS).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk in is brief — comfortable shoes are usually all you need. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 2.2 miles round trip. The nearest town is Westminster.
When to go: Summer (swimming). Flow usually peaks after snowmelt and heavy rain and tapers through late summer — a quick look at recent streamflow and the managing agency's conditions page can save a wasted trip.
