At 200 ft, Lower Whitewater Falls is one of the taller waterfalls in South Carolina — a cascade waterfall worth seeking out.
The falls are fed by Whitewater River. It lies in Oconee County, South Carolina. The site is on public land managed by USFS / SCDNR (Jocassee Gorges).
This is a moderate hike waterfall: a longer day hike, roughly one to several miles each way. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 4.3 miles round trip. The nearest town is Salem.
When to go: Winter and spring. Like most waterfalls, Lower Whitewater Falls runs highest after snowmelt or heavy rain and can thin out in late summer, so it's worth checking recent streamflow and the land manager's conditions page before a long drive.
