Mill Creek Falls is a roughly 20-foot waterfall, the largest of several along the Hawks Nest Rail Trail between Ansted and the Hawks Nest State Park marina. It sits about a mile in from either end of the trail, near where Westlake Falls and Upper Mill Creek Falls are visible from a footbridge.
Its 20 ft drop is taller than about 12% of the 775 waterfalls we track.
Mill Creek Falls (Hawks Nest) sits on Mill Creek. It lies in Fayette, West Virginia. The site is on public land managed by West Virginia State Parks (Hawks Nest State Park).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk in is brief — comfortable shoes are usually all you need. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 2 miles round trip. The nearest town is Ansted.
When to go: spring. Flow usually peaks after snowmelt and heavy rain and tapers through late summer — a quick look at recent streamflow and the managing agency's conditions page can save a wasted trip.
