Broke Leg Falls plunges about 60 feet into a wooded gorge just off US-460 south of Frenchburg, with a large rock shelter behind the curtain of water. One of eastern Kentucky's oldest roadside attractions, the developed site has a short trail, stairs, and shelters; it was struck by an EF-3 tornado in 2012.
Its 60 ft drop is taller than about 48% of the 775 waterfalls we track.
The falls are fed by Broke Leg Creek. It lies in Menifee, Kentucky. The site is on public land managed by Broke Leg Falls (Menifee County).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk in is brief — comfortable shoes are usually all you need. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 0.3 miles round trip. The nearest town is Frenchburg.
When to go: Spring (high flow). Flow usually peaks after snowmelt and heavy rain and tapers through late summer — a quick look at recent streamflow and the managing agency's conditions page can save a wasted trip.
