Bear Creek Falls cascades down a cliff face in the Uncompahgre National Forest above Telluride, reached by a roughly 4.7-mile out-and-back hike that climbs an old mining road from the end of South Pine Street in town. The trail gains about 1,095 feet, passing through the Bear Creek Preserve.

Its water comes from Bear Creek. You'll find it in San Miguel, Colorado. It is protected within Uncompahgre National Forest (USFS).

This is a moderate hike waterfall: a longer day hike, roughly one to several miles each way. Plan for a moderate hike; sturdy shoes, water, and a little time on the trail are worth bringing. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 4.7 miles round trip. Base a visit out of Telluride, the closest town.

When to go: Late spring to early fall (Jun-Sep). Expect the strongest flow in spring and after big storms, with a quieter trickle by late summer; confirm current conditions with the land manager before committing to the drive.
