St. Louis Canyon Falls is a modest but scenic plunge waterfall in Illinois, falling 40 ft.
Its water comes from St. Louis Canyon stream. It lies in La Salle, Illinois. The site is on public land managed by Illinois DNR (Starved Rock State Park).
This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 0.8 miles round trip. The nearest town is Oglesby.
When to go: Spring (snowmelt) or after rain; freezes into ice column in winter. Like most waterfalls, St. Louis Canyon Falls runs highest after snowmelt or heavy rain and can thin out in late summer, so it's worth checking recent streamflow and the land manager's conditions page before a long drive.
