Romero Pools is a series of seasonal pools and small cascades in Romero Canyon within the Pusch Ridge Wilderness, reached via a roughly 5.6-mile round-trip climb from Catalina State Park with about 1,000 feet of gain. Water flow is seasonal and best after winter and spring precipitation.
Its water comes from Romero Canyon (Montrose Wash). It lies in Pima, Arizona. The site is on public land managed by Catalina State Park / Coronado National Forest (Pusch Ridge Wilderness).
This is a moderate hike waterfall: a longer day hike, roughly one to several miles each way. Reaching it takes a moderate walk, so budget time and pack water before you set out. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 5.6 miles round trip. The nearest town is Oro Valley.
When to go: Late winter and spring after rain or snowmelt. Flow usually peaks after snowmelt and heavy rain and tapers through late summer — a quick look at recent streamflow and the managing agency's conditions page can save a wasted trip.
