At 308 ft, Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River is one of the taller waterfalls in Wyoming — a plunge waterfall worth seeking out.

The falls are fed by Yellowstone River. It lies in Park, Wyoming. The site is on public land managed by National Park Service (Yellowstone National Park).

This is a short hike waterfall: reached by a short trail, generally under about a mile each way. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 0.8 miles round trip. The nearest town is Canyon Village.

When to go: Late spring to early summer (peak runoff). Like most waterfalls, Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River runs highest after snowmelt or heavy rain and can thin out in late summer, so it's worth checking recent streamflow and the land manager's conditions page before a long drive.
