At 1,080 ft, Wapama Falls ranks among the tallest waterfalls in the United States — a horsetail waterfall in California. That places it among the ten tallest waterfalls we track, at #8 by height.
Its water comes from Falls Creek. You'll find it in Tuolumne, California. It is protected within National Park Service (Yosemite National Park, Hetch Hetchy).
This is a moderate hike waterfall: a longer day hike, roughly one to several miles each way. The walk to the main viewpoint runs about 5 miles round trip. Base a visit out of Mather, the closest town.
When to go: Spring (April-May). Like most waterfalls, Wapama Falls runs highest after snowmelt or heavy rain and can thin out in late summer, so it's worth checking recent streamflow and the land manager's conditions page before a long drive.
